FreeInvoice.app is a free invoice and quotation generator built for freelancers, contractors, tradespeople, and small businesses who need to send a professional document without signing up, paying a subscription, or handing client data to a cloud service.
Why "free that stays free"
Most free invoice generators are loss leaders for paid software. They cap your invoices, watermark your PDFs, force you to sign up before exporting, or quietly upgrade you to a paid tier the moment you do something useful.
FreeInvoice.app isn't venture-funded, isn't trying to upsell you, and isn't building a database of your clients to sell back to you later. It's a single-purpose utility: open it, fill in a form, export a PDF.
No invoice limits. No account. No watermark. No email gate. No upsell.
Privacy by architecture, not by promise
Many "privacy-respecting" tools rely on a privacy policy. FreeInvoice.app doesn't have to — your data physically can't reach our servers because the application runs entirely in your browser.
When you create an invoice:
The form fields, calculations, and PDF generation all happen on your device.
Saved invoices live in your browser's local storage — they never leave your machine.
The only outbound network call is to a public exchange-rate API for currency conversion (no client data is ever sent).
Clearing your browser data clears your invoice history. We can't recover it for you because we never had it.
This is technically called a client-side application. It's why the tool can't be "free with your data as the product" — your data simply doesn't reach us.
Who it's for

When you should use something else
We won't pretend FreeInvoice.app is the right tool for everyone. If you need any of the following, you're better served by paid accounting software (FreshBooks, QuickBooks, Wave, Xero):

How this site started
FreeInvoice.app started as a tool one of us built for a freelance friend who was tired of the choice between watermarked PDFs from "free" generators and the $20-30 monthly fee for software they only used twice a month. The friend's exact words: "I don't need an accounting system. I need to send a bill. Why is that hard?"
That conversation set the constraint: the tool had to do one thing, generate a clean, professional invoice, and do it without sign-up, without limits, without exporting customer data anywhere it didn't strictly need to go. Two weekends of evening coding produced the first version. The friend used it for a year and reported zero issues. So we published it.
The site has grown to include a quotation generator and the profession-specific guides you'll find at /invoices-by-profession — but the core constraint is the same. If a feature requires us to ask for your email or store your data on a server, it doesn't ship.
Our editorial standards on the profession guides
The 58 profession-specific invoice guides on this site (everything under /invoice-template-for-*/) contain practical billing advice for that trade — line items practitioners actually use, payment-cycle realities, common mistakes, US tax treatment, and FAQs. Where that guidance comes from matters, so here's our process:
Practitioner conversations. Where possible, the line-item language and pricing context comes from conversations with people working in the trade. We don't claim a network of paid contributors — we claim that we asked the working professionals we know to read what we wrote and tell us what was wrong.
State-level tax research. US sales-tax treatment for services varies wildly by state. We reference state departments of revenue, AICPA guidance, and industry-association tax bulletins. We do not claim to be tax professionals; every tax-notes section ends with "confirm specifics with your CPA" for a reason.
No AI-generated filler. The body content was drafted by humans editing AI-assisted drafts down to specifics — vague AI tells like "in today's competitive landscape" got cut. If a paragraph could apply to any business, it doesn't belong on a profession-specific page.
Corrections welcome. Working in one of these trades and noticed something wrong? Email contact with the page URL and the correction. We update; we credit you in a changelog entry if you'd like.
Last full content review: April 2026. Page-level dates appear in each page's structured data and reflect last meaningful edit.
Our six explicit commitments
The generator stays free. Always. There's no paid tier we're planning to push you toward.
No email gate. You can use the generator, save a draft, export a PDF, and leave without telling us anything about yourself.
No invoice limits. Send one a year or one a day. Same tool, same price ($0).
No watermark on exported PDFs. The PDF you export is the PDF you send to your client — your logo if you uploaded one, no FreeInvoice branding splattered across it.
No data leaves your browser unnecessarily. Currency conversion needs an exchange-rate API call. That's it. Your client list, your line items, your saved drafts — none of it touches our servers.
Public changelog. When we update the generator or the editorial content, the change is noted on the page's structured-data
dateModified. We don't silently rewrite guidance and pretend it was always there.
What we don't do — explicitly
A lot of free-invoice sites are built to capture your email and upsell you. To be clear about what we're not:
We don't collect your client's contact information into a CRM or marketing list.
We don't have a "lite" version and a "pro" version. There's one version.
We don't show interstitial sign-up modals before PDF export.
We don't add a "Made with FreeInvoice.app" line to your generated PDF.
We don't track your invoice contents for analytics. The only analytics we run measure page traffic, not what you typed into a form.
We don't have an affiliate program with the accounting tools we compare ourselves to. Our comparison page is honest about when you should switch to paid software.
How the site pays for itself
Running a free site costs something — hosting, domain renewal, occasional development time. Two things keep the lights on:
Google AdSense ads on guide pages. Profession-specific guide pages (the
/invoice-template-for-*URLs) carry display ads served by Google. The generator itself is ad-free so it doesn't get in your way while you work.No paid tier, no subscriptions, no "premium" features. Other revenue sources we've explicitly declined: email-list capture and sale, affiliate links to paid accounting software, sponsored placements in the profession guides, and "freemium" gating of basic features.
If the ad model ever stops working, we'll figure something else out. Switching the generator to paid is not on the table.
